What to expect before you’re expecting

In preparation into my journey into single motherhood I read What to expect before your’re expecting and let me tell you I love this book. This is a book everyone who is considering having a baby should read. whether your a couple or a single trying for a baby male or female this book has knowledge for all. The first section of the book goes into planing to conceive. Talks about how your current life style or health conditions can either help or hinder your fertility for both the male and female and goes into things you would not normal consider for instance your teeth. The second section is more for the females but has a lot of good info for guys on keeping their sperm strong and healthy. It is more so about ovulation, how to track it and the signs and symptoms. when to take a pregnancy test and when to know you have succeeded. The last reading part of the book Is on health conditions that may affect fertility, fertility medication and treatments. As well as how to move past the loss of a pregnancy. the very final part of the book are fertility tracking worksheets for you to put your new found skills to the test. This is a definite must read for anyone who either wants children or works with pregnant women.

First visit to the doctor

Earlier today I had my first visit to my family doctor to discus about me having a baby. Going into the appointment I wanted a full blood panel, discussion on my medication and to see a dietitian and ask any questions about anything that might get in the way of having a baby. I got sent for full blood work to have done on the third day of my period to test hormones. turns out that I am able to be on one of my medications while pregnant but not my other one. My doctor also has sent me to get a pap test done. so we are going to get all this done and see what happens for an appointment next month.

creating a budget on one income for baby

After researching the cost associated with having a baby by sperm bank I was sticker shocked. So now i am left wondering how can I do this. So I toke a breath and got to work. I wrote out what money I have coming in each month and compared it to the money going out (your expenses). Expenses will very person to person, mine included rent, bus pass, gym and groceries. Than I divided the money left over after my expenses into spending money and money being saved for the baby. After making my budget I realized my that in a years time it will most defiantly be possible to afford a baby by sperm bank. On top of making a budget I have been going through my house reorganizing and getting rid of stuff. Any thing of any value I have been selling of and other things are getting ready for a spring garage sale all money from this is right to baby as well. So it is possible for a single who dose not make a whole lot to reach the dream of parenthood you just have to work the numbers. Until next time readers

Picking a gym for you

my pre-weight lost photos

Did you know that your weight can play a part in fertility? Cause I did not until I started my journey to single motherhood. So here i am in my planing stages deciding I need to lose about 100 to 150 pounds before becoming pregnant. But the question I had was where to go with so many options to choose from. I am lucky that I live in a city and have options to choose from but that also made finding a gym for me challenging as well. where I live we have Good Life, Planet Fitness, and Movati just to name the big ones. I instantly ruled out Movati due to price and location alone, which left Good Life and Planet Fitness. Things that are important to me in a gym is Access to personal trainers, classes, price and location. Planet Fitness had price, access to personal trainer going for it but the only location is on the opposite side of town and they don’t offer classes. Good Life on the other had had almost everything going for it except the price of $80 a month ouch. But in the end I decided on location and classes over price. I made this decision based on my preference of group lead workout vs. solo work out. Now i am enjoying learning from my personal trainer Veronica and the nice hot yoga classes at my local Good Life. So when picking a gym just keep in mind all the qualities that you need to meet your need whether that in a built in day care, budget friendly, classes or a personal trainer. Always visit the gym before signing up.You might be tempted to just sign up online and then go, but by doing this you are not seeing if the facilities are truly right for you. Well readers good luck on your gym hunting and look forward to the next post.

telling friends

so I have decide to split up the telling friends and family since at this point not all family knows but all my close friends do. Honestly there is not overly much to say in regards to my friends my 2 girlfriends from high school are not surprised on my path since I have been saying this is they way I will have my children. My good friend Kati had some concerns regarding health concerns but is supportive. Eden did not say much but I know she will support me in anything I need. Now my girlfriend from collage Sam is super supportive and excited. Sam gave birth to my nephew back in July and is excited for our children to grow up together. As I mentioned not a whole lot to say But trust me when I tell you about some reactions from my family members is where the excitement is. until than readers.

So why single motherhood?

so you might be wondering why a young 24 year old would choose single motherhood. Well easy I have only ever wanted to be a mom but not a wife. Reasons on why that is to keep it short and sweet is i have trust issues that result in the inability to form romantic relationships due to childhood trauma caused by bulling. But the one thing I know I was meant to do with my life was to be a mom. So that left very few options opened to me. I definitely did not feel like becoming pregnant by some one night stand so I started to research the internet and found information on sperm donors and from there facilities in my local area. Honestly I would have done this sooner but I still had a lot of growing up to do and I am glad I waited a bit to go to collage and gain that experience to bring with me into this new adventure. until next time readers.

start preparing your body and mind for pregnancy

since at this point I am just waiting to attend appointments I thought this week we could talk about what kinds of things single mom to be can do to start preparing her body and mind for baby. Now this can mean different things for different people depending on what your life style looks like and individual health concerns. For me I need to get down in weight, look at different medication for my depression and anxiety as well as educating myself on pregnancy and newborns. So I have joined an inexpensive gym that has free member access to a personal trainer (planet fitness is amazing)and have invested into at home yoga since yoga is a good thing to continue into pregnancy(www.youtube.com/user/psychetruth). I am also trying and failing to cut out bad snacking but I have a big weakness to gummy candies so definitely need to work harder on this. Might ask my family doctor for a referral to a diet expert. another thing I have been busy working on is a budget to save not only for the baby once here but the procedure and treatments to have my baby(good sperm dose not come cheap). Then the final thing I have been doing is deciding on a month to start trying for the baby I myself have decided to start trying if all goes according to plan in October but my back up is next March.

Welcome To My Journey

Hi i’m Mirisah and i am a young 24 year old Canadian Single who is making the journey to motherhood by myself. I have known since high school that this was the way I was going to have my children and that is alright. It is alright to want to live your life on your terms. I have never been as happy in a relationship as I have been single. But one thing I have always known I wanted out of my life was to be a mom. Now here i am years later finally starting my journey into single motherhood by choice. So where dose one go when looking into single parenthood? I started looking into what sperm bank options are within my province. Within Ontario there are free sperm banks to access. Repro Med in Toronto, Can- An Cryo in Hamilton and Outreach Health Services in New Market. After doing all my research into cost, ability to access, and reviews I decided to go with Repro Med in Toronto. My next step and the step that I am currently working on is getting my mind and body ready for pregnancy by reading what to expect before you’re expecting by Heidi Murkoff and Sharon Mazel. I am also making appointments with my family doctor and my dentist to make sure i am healthy and no major dental work needing done. I am also trying to loss weight and get down to a good weight to carry a baby at. And that readers is where I currently am in my journey to single motherhood until next time lovelies.
